about

Meddling Kids is the child of BoyInfidel (aka Marc) and Big Ugly Jim (aka Jim). The two are Calgary-based skeptical humanists who met many years ago and have been pals ever since. The plan for Meddling Kids is simply to promote science and reason. As kids, the two both enjoyed Scooby Doo Mysteries, our first real brush with skeptical analysis. What seemed like pirate ghosts always wound up having a perfectly rational explanation.

Science and reason are two of the most important skills we can utilize to make sense out of the world around us. And they are skills that are under constant attack and seemingly undervalued by many. We want this site to remind people of their value to society and to the individual.

From Marc

I love science. I love the beautiful simplicity of the scientific method and how it can bring about such awe-inspiring discoveries. As the human race progresses those discoveries change how we perceive and experience the world around us. A new Golden Age of science seems to be upon us, and yet most educated, curious citizens have no visibility to it and sadly our educational system is lacking in providing basic science knowledge to our children. Advancements are made daily in everything from cosmology and quantum mechanics to genomics and human social behaviors. Its a very exciting time.

I hope this site is a source of information, inspiration and discussion for my friends, family and all Canadians.

BoyInfidel

…and from Jim:

What he said. I love science and analysis and thinking things through and coming up with ideas and testing my thoughts and opening myself up for scrutiny. I think of this whole enlightenment thing as the (so far) greatest thing we’ve managed to do as a species, and utilizing the things it taught us continues to propel us forward. I want to share my amazement with others and remind them of those simple fundamentals.
