Six Minutes To Remind Us How Huge It All Is

This is an absolutely incredible six minute video that starts out on the highest reaches of the earth and then zooms us out to the cosmic horizon as we know it. It reminds me very much when I watch it of how amazingly large the universe around us is, and what an unexplored frontier it presents to us. Seeing things in this scale, it’s hard to imagine the odds on finding nothing else alive out there, and, at least for me, hard to imagine anyone thinking that this was all the product of some God who could create something so immense and still care if I say his name when I stub my toe.

Watch the video and read the information about it. :)

One Response to Six Minutes To Remind Us How Huge It All Is

These are the questions that led to my eventual release from religion and faith. Why would a god create a billion billion suns, (with millions more being created as we speak)? If we are ‘his’ only true sentient creation, then why all the overkill? Was it to amuse us and give us something to discuss? Seems like a waste of energy and effort. Or maybe it was just to amuse himself? Seems like a very human thing to do. The bible states that the stars are there only “to give light upon the earth” Gen 1:15 KJV. The sun does this job just fine. If god wanted to create a world for mankind he could have just created the universe as the people of the Bible understood it: one planet with an orbiting ball of heat and a moon to help count the seasons and provide tides. There would be no need for all the excessive display of awesomeness, unless god was a big show-off.
